I Want To Answer The God’s Question!

May 8th, 2007

Targeted Audience: Entrepreneurs, Students, Recent Graduates

The other day my friends and I were having a very constructive discussion –

  • Why I want to do it all which I am doing now?
  • Why I want to become an entrepreneur?
  • Why I can’t stay happy and satisfied only with 8-5 job?
  • Why I always discuss startups, ideas, and acquisitions with my friends compared to cricket, bollywood and money?

My answer in just one line was – "I want to answer the God’s question!"

What is the God’s Question?

“At the end of your life, the God is going to ask you, how you made the world a better place”, says Guy Kawasaki, Managing Director of Garage Technology Ventures.

I believe that entrepreneurship is the best platform to change the world. We experience this almost everyday that someone is innovating some next break through idea and is participating in the journey of end of suffering. According to World Intellectual Property Organization, in year 2000, 71% of inventions are attributable to independent entrepreneurs. Of course, big companies like Microsoft, IBM and Google have strong arm of research and development centers. But still we see so many entrepreneurs coming up with the remarkable idea which hopes to change the world.

Entrepreneurship and innovation are central to economic growth and social transformation. Vinod Khosla, Co-founder of Sun Microsystems believes that entrepreneurship is the driving engine of the economy and is going to continue the same. Numerous products and services innovated by entrepreneurs changed the way people live their life. Foe example, Steve Jobs together with Steve Wozniak brought the concept of the personal computer in the world in late ’70s, and as we all know, after food, shelter and clothes, it is the PC.

Entrepreneurs not only contributed to the world through product innovations but also played a significant role in philanthropic activities. Entrepreneurs who had amassed wealth through the success of their entrepreneurial ventures endowed most philanthropic foundations. Bill Gates initially funded ‘The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’ with US$106 million in year 2000. Generating wealth (not only money) is essential step if we want to make the significant change in the world.

Similarly, I also want to change the world. Slowly, steadily but significantly. And thats why I am walking this 0.1 mile extra compared to 8-5 professionals. All efforts and sacrifices in walking that extra miles is worth of billion dollars, because those are secrets of how to answer the God’s question!
