Why Do Decisions Matter?

View Comments

Every person is responsible to take certain decisions in his or her life. I believe that the decision taking ability is one of the most important assets of any successful person. To be more specific, successful people achieved the success not only because they took the right decisions but also because they took some wrong decisions. Right decisions obviously helped them to achieve right results, but wrong decisions also helped them to learn from their mistakes. But if you consider the ratio, I guess they must have taken more right decisions compared to the wrong ones.

But what about us? How do decisions matter in our daily life?

In our daily routine, at every point, we see tons of options to select from. The decision we take by selecting one of the options will determine the more options we can have in the future. The decisions we take in the present are correlated to those in the future.

With each wrong decision we take, it becomes easier to take another wrong decision and more difficult to take a right one. Similar is the case with the right decisions. With each right decision we take, it becomes easier and obvious to take more right decisions.

So the decisions we take now affect our current opportunities, as well as our future possibilities. Thus, each decision we take in the present has some hidden benefits or costs in the future.  So it becomes very important to take every decision as right as possible almost in every situation.

Now I am not very sure about what is the art behind taking right decisions, but few hints I can think of while taking major decisions are:

  • Write down your definable reasoning behind each decision
  • Discuss your decision with friends and mentors
  • Be open to learn from both positive and negative feedbacks
  • Finally, go with your gut feeling

Once again, every right decision we will take now can have tremendous impact in future. So be very thoughtful while taking any decision.
