Making The Most Of Your Time
I just finished reading "Making The Most Of Your Time" manifesto by my mentor Rajesh Setty. Once again, very thoughtful and pragmatic content by Rajesh. In this manifesto, he explains that everyone has only twenty-four hours in a day but successful people get a lot more out of those twenty-four hours than average people.
Rajesh shares how we can achieve more by managing our time better by managing ourselves better in 9 key principles:
- Execute your current projects flawlessly.
- Strengthen your personal brand.
- Build long-term relationships.
- Increase your capacity to deliver.
- Make a difference to the world.
- Increase others’ capacity to make a difference.
- Spend time with friends and family.
- Increase your contributions to multiple networks.
- Learning and learning to un-learn.
To read more details on above principles, download the 16 pages manifesto here: Making The Most Of Your Time.

I hate gossiping…
… but I still do it.
Gossiping is such thing that almost everybody love it when they do it, and then they hate it when they are done with it. Its very hard to control the gossiping. We know that we are not doing the right thing, but we still can’t control doing it.
But if we love it so much, why do we think that we are not doing the right thing?
Whats wrong with the gossiping?
"Its not good manner."
"It makes us to think and speak bad about someone."
"It spreads the bad things about someone in the community."
True. But I think the biggest problem with the gossiping is — it destroys our relationship with the person about whom we are gossiping.
I think, when we gossip about someone, we prejudice our mind. And next time when we meet that person, our relations are not the same as they used to be. We have a different outlook when we look at that person. It just spoils our original relation.
And thats why I hate it! And thats why I am going to learn how not to gossip!
[Innovations] The Smart Parking Meter
A new parking meter aims to reduce the number of tickets drivers
receive by calling and alerting them that the meter is running low on
time. A few cities have installed the "smart" model.

PhotoViolationMeter, or PVM,
calls drivers to warn them that the meter is running out of time and
provides a pay-by-phone option to refill the meter. When drivers first
park, they can pay with debit or credit cards, or spare change.
The meters also photograph license plates, providing evidence for
prosecution when cars do violate parking laws. The meters’ sensors
reset each time a car parks in the corresponding space, decreasing the
likelihood cities will lose money on scofflaws who are not caught by
traffic police.
The meters also greet drivers with a message and inform them of specific parking regulations.

The Power of Mutual Inductance!
Mutual Inductance is the concept that the current through one inductor can induce a voltage in another nearby inductor.
We can extend this concept to our work place as well.
Mutual Inductance is the concept that the productive energy of one colleague can induce a passion in another nearby colleague.
Have you ever observed that if we are surrounded with cranky neighboring co-workers then it affects our productivity?
Have you ever noticed that we can’t learn from senior colleagues if they themselves are not star performers?
Similar is the case with getting surrounded by hard working and intelligent colleagues in the workplace. It causes Mutual Inductance to take place and transform that intelligence and passion from those star performers to nearby colleagues.
I am blessed to have such best teammates seating right next to my cubicle. These are very diligent, intelligent and passionate colleagues. When they work, the sense of positive energy always flows in the workplace. I learn many things just by observing them like what they do, how they address the problem, how they communicate, and many more. As I already said, you don’t need to know reading to learn these things. All you need is strong observation ability.
I always get charged up to work hard by Mutual Inductance effect of these smart colleagues. When I am low or bored at work, I just talk to them or observe them. And I feel energetic just by seeing how passionately they are working. I also try to imitate them. And I observed that I become more productive when I try to work like they work. And not to mention, I feel good at the end of the day that I am getting better and better every day.
But there are certain things that we need to understand to get this Mutual Inductance effect work for you at your workplace:
If you are lucky to have your neighboring colleagues as star performers:
- Then you need to keep your mind Open to accept that they are the best and we can learn from them.
- You also need to improve your visibility and observation ability to learn how they are working.
- You need to only take good points from them. If they are wrong at some points, then just ignore it. Don’t try to prove them wrong.
If you are unlucky and you have cranky colleagues nearby you:
- Request your manager to give an opportunity to work with the best teammate on some project assignment.
- If possible, request him or her to shift your place near to that best teammate’s place. Tell him that you want to shift because he is best and there is huge opportunity to learn from him. Don’t complain about your cranky colleague.
- If you are not able to shift due to physical constraints, then get engaged frequently with the best teammate on personal basis as well. And learn his qualities by hanging around with him.
- And of course, just try to ignore that cranky co-worker. Don’t waste your thinking bandwidth in analyzing how he is not good.
Once again, irrespective of your capabilities, if you surround yourself with the best people in the team, you will be more productive than you used to be usually.
Have a nice weekend ahead!
[Innovations] The Virtual Keyboard
Everyone wants their mobile devices to be small, but many people also curse the tiny, cryptic keyboards that manufacturers squeeze into smart phones and PDAs. Lumio Inc.’s Virtual Interface technology offers a possible solution. Using this technology, we can have virtual keyboard built in mobile devices or can be obtained in a stand alone module.
Virtual keyboards are no more a film fantasy now!

Lumio’s technology uses a red laser to illuminate a virtual keyboard outline on virtually any surface. The laser is a visual guide to where to put your fingers. A separate Infrared illumination and sensor module invisibly tracks when and where your fingers touch the surface, translating that into keystrokes or other commands.
This technology has applications in airplane seats, cars, restaurants, home appliances and industrial automation.

Who are the Leaders?
I recently read this quote –
A leader is someone who sees more than others see, who sees farther than others see, and who sees before others see. — Leroy Eimes
I couldn’t argue with this thought anymore.
My understanding is, these qualities are gifted by birth to any person. Is it true that leaders are born leaders? Can such kind of leaders be created by teaching leadership principles?
Can we teach someone how to create a vision? Can we train someone for how to predict whats the next big thing? What do you think?
