The Beginning is Critical

with 2 comments

You might say, what’s so critical in the beginning of anything. Because you know that they say, it’s the actual execution till the end that matters the most. Yes, I agree with you. I am not arguing on the importance of execution till the end. But at the same time, I don’t want to neglect the criticality of the beginning.

For me, execution is future. Beginning is now. Sometimes I can not predict the exact future, and hence I may not guaranty the success of execution. But I know what the present is. So I can take definite actions to begin something.

I have been in certain situations, where I have started few projects with bang. While executing those projects, I tried predicting what’s coming to me. But I failed to predict it correctly. And those projects never got completed. As they say, either you win or you learn. I learned.

But these incomplete projects didn’t stop me from beginning another new project. When some of your experiments don’t succeed, you get surrounded by negative thoughts like self-doubt, fear of failure, external pressure, etc. And that hinders our progress. For most of us, beginning becomes the most difficult part because of our past history of poor performance. And that’s why I think it becomes very critical to begin another new project.

We have to overcome our internal and external resistances to begin a new project. We have to focus on how to eliminate our self doubt, fear of failure, and procrastination habit. We have to learn how to deal with constant external pressure. We should prepare to work harder. We should prioritize our risk taking ability over our comfort-zone security. We should stop making excuses to ourselves.

Once we work towards abolishing our resistances, we should be in a position to begin something new. Of course, we know that we have to be not only committed to the beginning, but the long-term execution. But at least let’s begin now. Let’s begin something very remarkable and valuable now.
